Miss Universe Australia Qld finalist - Erin Malcomson

Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with state finals kicking off across the country.
Starting off our home state interviews is Erin Malcomson one of the contestants who will be competing for a place in the national final held later this year in Melbourne at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 where the nations finalists will be competing for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2016.

Congratulations on making it so far in the coveted Miss Universe Australia competition tell us a little about yourself..?
I’m currently studying a dual Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Arts, majoring in International Relations, at the University of Queensland.   I grew up on the Sunshine Coast and moved to Brisbane to study at UQ, so I’m definitely a coast girl at heart and I’ll take any chance I can get to have a weekend away at the beach!  I have a strong desire for spontaneity and travelling, I’m always open to trying new things, experiencing different cultures, and living my life to the fullest!

Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia pageant?   A friend of mine was actually a contestant in WA’s preliminary events for Miss Universe Australia, and she suggested I look into auditioning to be part of the QLD team.  I’m definitely glad I followed her suggestion! I think it is such an amazing experience to be among beautiful, confident, educated young women who support each other and all work together in charity events.

Speaking of inspiration what inspires you most?
My mum is the biggest inspiration in my life, hands down! She’s the strongest woman I know, and has such a generous, loving, kind-hearted nature.  She’s worked extremely hard her entire life to provide the best for my siblings and I, and I admire her independence and positive outlook on life.

What is something that you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia pageant?  Being part of the QLD team is an amazing experience. I’ve already met so many wonderful people and had some incredible opportunities.  I hope to leave this competition with a happy mind, happy heart, and the confidence to be pro-active towards facing some important issues in the world today.

The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are there any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to use the platform of Miss Universe to advance?
I am extremely passionate about helping those who have lost their homes and families as a result of conflict in their own countries.  I would love to use my role in this competition to advance the support and sponsorships of refugee children and their families coming to Australia.

The rivalry between states is sure to be heightened this year why do you think Queensland is the best state to take out Miss Universe Australia?

Coming from QLD, the girls are very laidback and focused on supporting each other and having a good time together.  I think the mixture of determination, approachability, and enthusiasm that the QLD team have makes this the best state to produce a down-to-earth Miss Universe Australian winner.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

What is something you find yourself always saying?

“Hey, how are you going?” I work in a café and I would probably ask this question 600 times a day! It’s always good to ask someone how their day is going, to figure out how much coffee they are going to need to get through it!

How would your closest friend describe you?
MY friends often say that I appear quiet to others who don’t know me well, but I’m actually the exact opposite.  I’m spontaneous, always up for a good time, and like to focus on making other people happy.
What are your top three values that you live by?

Respect, integrity and compassion.

Something that makes you stand out from other contestants?

In a competition like this it is hard to stand out, as there are so many beautiful, intelligent girls!  However, I think my determination will set me apart from other contestants.  My drive to be in a position where I can voice my opinion on critical world issues and work with charities to change the lives of those in difficult positions is what I want to be recognized for.

What does your current fitness regime look like in the lead up to the state finals ..?
The team at Think24 Fitness has been wonderful in helping the QLD team get in shape for the state finals!  On Monday nights I have personal training with one of their trainers, on Tuesdays the QLD girls will do a group boxing session, and Saturday mornings we do a HIIT group training session! I also like to incorporate my own independent workouts during the week when I’m not in a group session.

Name five things you can’t live without?

I’ll admit it – my iPhone for sure (it has maps, the time, and all my music okay!!).

Also my family, travelling, my cat Iggy, and salt and vinegars chips – my weakness.

What song would you say is your personal anthem or theme song and why?

Not so much a personal anthem but I love “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson at the moment! It’s so upbeat and fun I think that is reflective of who I am!
