Miss Universe QLD Finalist Interview - Laura Hanlon

Well, Autumn is in full swing, and It’s also that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with state finalists being announced across the country.

So we thought it would be a perfect time to kick off some home state interviews with Laura Hanlon. Congratulations on making it through to the state finals, why don’t you tell us about yourself?

Thank you! My name is Laura Mae Hanlon, I’ve lived in Cairns for the majority of my life and just moved to Brisbane about three months ago. I’m a third-year Psychology student, so I love all things brains and science! I work casually for Red Bull Australia on the Wings Team in sales and field marketing, and I also own my own clothing label called MAE. Where I design and handmade all the clothing!

We all have motivations, Mine usually revolves around coffee but what was your key motivation for entering the MUA competition?

My motivations definitely revolve around coffee! I entered the Miss Universe program last year and was lucky enough to make it to the top 30 nationally, so that’s been my biggest motivation to come back and give it another shot! It’s such an incredible program, and I learnt so much personally, and professionally last year, so those were also motivations.

What part of the Miss Universe Australia program are you most looking forward to?

I’m mainly looking forward to the actual state final Day! It’s so much fun getting on stage and showing everyone all the hard work you have put in over the past few months, so that’s a definite highlight for me.

We are all unique so what would you say is something that makes you stand out from the other contestants?

My biggest stand out factor would have to be my red hair. I’m the only red-headed QLD contestant, so hopefully, I can use that to my advantage!

With the state finals, less than a fortnight away, has your routine changed at all?

I’ve tightened up my diet and really started focusing on my fitness in the lead up to the State Final. Other than that my routine has stayed pretty normal.

What is something that you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia pageant?

I made so many incredible friends through the program last year who I consider some of my best friends now, so I’m really looking forward to bonding with all the girls and making some new life long friends.

We will wrap up with a few irrelevant and random questions, now that my coffee has worn off.
Name five things you can’t live without?

My sewing machine, Netflix account, my baby brother, coffee and maxibon ice cream!

How long does it take you to scroll through Facebook before giving up?

My boyfriend jokes that I’m addicted to my phone! I can sit there and scroll through Facebook for hours and hours before I get bored, it’s a bad habit I know!

How would your closest friend describe you?

I hope they would describe me as a bubbly, friendly and empathetic person

When You Dance, You look like?

I don’t even want to know what I look like to be honest! I’m a classically trained Ballerina so busting a move in the club is not exactly my forte!

Finally, and this one is important, so please pay attention… What do you think pets dream about?

This is something I spend way too much time thinking about! Another question I ask myself on the daily is do dogs think in woofs like humans think in words? Okay, back to the dreaming- I feel like pets dream about food, cuddles and more food!

So not long now until this highly anticipated event that will see 28 of QLD’s most beautiful women compete to secure a spot as a QLD National Finalist, and go on to compete in and represent QLD in the Miss Universe Australia National Final. Get Your Ticket Here
