Miss Universe QLD Finalist Interview - Sophia Harris

Well, Autumn is in full swing, and It’s also that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with state finalists being announced across the country.

So we thought it would be a perfect time to kick off some home state interviews with Sophia Harris.
Congratulations on making it through to the state finals, why don’t you tell us about yourself?

Thank you so much, you have no idea how excited I am to be in this competition! I am a 23 years old, born and raised on the Gold Coast and currently in my final year of University studying a Bachelor of Education Primary and modelling part time. I am an avid horse rider and have been since the age of 5, competing in dressage competitions across Queensland since a young age.Travelling is one of my passions, and I love exploring new countries, meeting new people and learning about different cultures.

We all have motivations, Mine usually revolves around coffee but what was your key motivation for entering the MUA competition?

Being involved in Miss Universe Australia has been a dream of mine for a lot of years. I love what Miss Universe is, and the opportunities it provides and when deciding to enter my primary motivation was to become involved in a competition that helps young women become the best versions of themselves, building confidence and providing opportunities.

What part of the Miss Universe Australia program are you most looking forward to?

I am most excited for the whole experience, meeting the other girls and making new friends, working with great sponsors and most of all having a lot of fun throughout the whole program.

We are all unique so what would you say is something that makes you stand out from the other contestants?

I am very personable and relatable and comfortable around all different types of people. I will happily strike up a conversation with anyone, and I am very approachable. I can also relate to everyday people, growing up and working hard for everything I have wanted in life, setting goals and doing everything possible to reach them.

With the state finals, less than a fortnight away, has your routine changed at all?

Even before starting the Miss Universe Australia journey I considered myself a very healthy person. I love the gym and filling my body with healthy foods so that part of my routine hasn’t changed; I think what has changed for me though is that I am now working towards a dream, and pushing myself towards that goal. I have also spent extra time walking from one end of my house to the other in sky high heels 😉

What is something that you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia pageant?

I hope through the competition to grow as a person and to take everything possible out of the experience and to make the most out of the opportunities Miss Universe Australia provides. I also plan on having a lot of fun through the whole competition and to make memories that will last a lifetime.

We will wrap up with a few irrelevant and random questions, now that my coffee has worn off.
Name five things you can’t live without?

– Family 😛 (but in all seriousness, my family is my biggest support system, could not be where I am today without them)

– My pets (Complete animal lover, couldn’t live without my animals including my Guinea Pigs, Dog, Cat, Chickens & Horses)

– Liquorice (It’s liquorice)

– Friends (My friends keep me grounded and are always there, whether I need a laugh or someone to talk to)

– Me Time (Time to just look after Me)

How long does it take you to scroll through Facebook before giving up?

My tolerance for Facebook changes on a day-to-day basis. Some days I could sit scrolling for hours and others I have my Facebook fix done and dusted in a matter of minutes. Always longer when there are some funny animal videos in my newsfeed though 😉

How would your closest friend describe you?

My friends would describe me as down to earth, dependable, someone who will go out of their way to help others and loves a good joke and a laugh.

When You Dance, You look like?

Carefree, I dance like no one is watching and usually have a big grin plastered on my face.

Finally, and this one is important, so please pay attention… What do you think pets dream about?

My cat is very lazy and loves food so his dreams would be about eating everything … Everything (like the Garfield movie where he is dreaming about food, right on point)

So not long now until this highly anticipated event that will see 28 of QLD’s most beautiful women compete to secure a spot as a QLD National Finalist, and go on to compete in and represent QLD in the Miss Universe Australia National Final. Get Your Ticket Here
