Miss Universe QLD Finalist Interview - Taylor Curry

Well, Autumn is in full swing, and It’s also that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with state finalists being announced across the country.

So we thought it would be a perfect time to kick off some home state interviews with Taylor Curry. Congratulations on making it through to the state finals, why don’t you tell us about yourself?

Thank you, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Miss Universe Qld team. I am 21 years old, born and raised on the Gold Coast. I work in a very rewarding role as a Disability Support Worker for a non-profit organisation providing support to clients with Disability and Mental Health issues, helping them achieve their independence and assisting with everyday needs, transportation, community accesses, making healthy choices and personal care. As a long term Latin and Ballroom dancer, I’ve won four Australian Championships, where I have proudly represented Australia across the world including; the United Kingdom, China, Russia, and Moldova. Over the last 12 months, I have stepped into the modelling world; it has been the experience of a lifetime. Continuing my love for travel, I’ve modelled through the Philippines, China, South Africa, Dubai and recently Fiji. My first love, however, will always be home; I’m a proud Australian.

We all have motivations, Mine usually revolves around coffee but what was your key motivation for entering the MUA competition?

Nelson Mandela once quoted, “Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation.”
For me Miss Universe is a platform to be a great role model, bring about change and help those less fortunate. I will also be lucky enough to meet beautiful, intelligent, educated contestants, creating new friendships and sharing the experience of a lifetime.

What part of the Miss Universe Australia program are you most looking forward to?

It is hard to depict one aspect of this fantastic opportunity as I’m looking forward to so many. I’m looking forward to the adventure, travel destinations, connections with sponsors and event organisers, new opportunities, representing brands, learning and growing as an individual, charity involvement and of course the friendships and memories as I mentioned earlier.

We are all unique so what would you say is something that makes you stand out from the other contestants?

When I reflect on what stands out to me when I recall certain individuals, it’s always their charisma, their character and the emanation of a greater deeper value beyond just skin deep. I’d like to think that this is what makes me stand out. It is also pretty rare to see me without a smile, my nickname in school was Smiley for a good reason lol.

With the state finals, less than a fortnight away, has your routine changed at all?

My routine is predominately unchanged; I work out 4 – 5 times a week with a combination of gym, running and karate. However, I am trying to forgo the chocolate and cake!! lol

What is something that you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia pageant?

I hope to walk away from this experience with great friendships, self – improvement, new opportunities and having given back to the community.

We will wrap up with a few irrelevant and random questions, now that my coffee has worn off.    Name five things you can’t live without?

Family, friends, goals, love and adventure

How long does it take you to scroll through Facebook before giving up?

Can anyone give up on facebook? It’s never ending, too many hysterical videos and witty humour.

How would your closest friend describe you?

Well apart from the first impression of never-ending smiles, those closest to me would describe me as driven, devoted, loyal, big-hearted and sometimes a little stubborn 😛

When You Dance, You look like?

I’d have to say my ‘hitting the clubs’ dancing most resembles Mr Bean dancing to Shaggy’s Bombastic… I don’t go out much lol. I can, however, do a mean waltz haha

Finally, and this one is important, so please pay attention… What do you think pets dream about?

What’s there to dream about? They’re living the dream! Eat, Sleep, Fetch, Repeat.

So not long now until this highly anticipated event that will see 28 of QLD’s most beautiful women compete to secure a spot as a QLD National Finalist, and go on to compete in and represent QLD in the Miss Universe Australia National Final. Get Your Ticket Here
