Palm Beach Aquatic Centre Transformation Underway, Set to Reopen in Mid-2024

First Look: Palm Beach Aquatic Centre Transformation, Delay pushes opening to Spring

Discover the revamped Palm Beach Aquatic Centre set to now open this Spring. Enjoy upgraded pools, fitness facilities, and a vibrant community hub on the Gold Coast

The Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre has been under redevelopment for the past two years and was scheduled to open mid-year, but the council have now provided an update that will delay the opening to Spring.

“The Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre is now 76 per cent complete with the current focus on the internal fit-out and upgrades to widen Thrower Drive,” Tim Baker City CEO said.

“Unfortunately, we have experienced a further delay and the centre is now expected to reopen in Spring 2024.

Mayor Tom Tate commented, “The Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre is making significant progress. These new facilities will breathe life into one of the Gold Coast’s popular community precincts.”

Upon completion, this integrated ‘lifestyle destination’ will cater to the Southern Gold Coast’s growing population. The redevelopment will revamp the existing facilities, offering larger warm water program and learn-to-swim pools, an upgraded fitness center, and a new 25-meter heated outdoor pool.

A highlight of the revitalization project is the addition of a much-needed community center. This space will house a multifunctional hall, meeting rooms, a dance studio, creche, and a new café, promoting community engagement.

The Palm Beach Aquatic Centre, constructed between 1977 and 1981, has become one of the most beloved aquatic facilities on the Gold Coast. However, after more than 40 years, it no longer met current standards and compliance. Major upgrades were essential to meet the growing demand from the community.

The new 25-meter pool is funded by the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program in collaboration with the City of Gold Coast.

The transformation of the Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre is the latest in a significant development for the area. By mid-2024, residents and visitors can look forward to improved facilities, enhanced fitness options, and a dynamic community hub.
