Held over three Winter nights, HOTA’s UNDERGROUND Festival delves into captivating new realms of artistic exploration, novel ideas, and experimental concepts.
Leave behind the mundane and embark on an exhilarating journey through art, theatre, performance, music, and comedy, but not as you know it. As part of HOTA’s ground-breaking UNDERGROUND Festival, Gold Coast underground music project Ravewave takes the stage on July 14. Established in 2020, Ravewave is known for delivering fresh and unique experiences, intertwining underground music and arts with an aim to inject the local scene with lesser-known genres from around the world as well as providing a platform for local artists to showcase their work.
The event will feature an epic three-hour back-to-back set by two boundary-pushing artists, Eden Burns and Nice Girl, providing a subterranean soundtrack into the Winter night. As these talented DJ’s take the stage, they promise to take you on a journey to the depths of the underground through their signature sounds.
From New Zealand, Eden Burns brings a blend of club-ready maximalism and wide-eyed weirdness to his colourful and diverse productions. His music draws inspiration from scuffed tech-house records and the iconic documentary “Paris Is Burning.” With releases on underground labels like Feel My Bicep and Cold Tonic, Eden has quickly gained recognition and has performed at clubs and stages worldwide. His vivid productions have garnered support from industry heavyweights like Solomun, Jamie Tiller, and Gerd Janson.
Sharing the stage with Eden Burns is Nice Girl, a New Zealand-born, Naarm/Melbourne-based producer and DJ. Her debut release in 2019 on Melbourne label Houses in Motion showcased her eclectic dance floor-focused style, catching the attention of industry tastemakers like Bell Towers. Subsequent releases, including “Take a Step” and her “Whistling Thorn” EP, solidified her reputation as a versatile and boundary-pushing artist. Nice Girl’s DJ sets are known for defying genres, BPMs, and trends, taking dance music tropes and making them weird and danceable at the same time.
The subterranean sanctuary of HOTA will be transformed into a spectacle of sound, light, and dance for an extraordinary night on July 14. Fostering a culture of inclusivity, music lovers from all walks of life are encouraged to come and enjoy the spirit of music and art. Ravewave promises a mesmerizing experience where attendees can lose themselves in the rhythms and beats, surrounded by captivating visuals and energy that will ignite the night.
Ravewave presents a subterranean spectacle of sound with Eden Burns and Nice Girl at The Basement on Saturday, July 14 at 6 p.m. and is part of the HOTA UNDERGROUND Festival, which runs from July 13–15.
