The search to find the next Miss Universe Australia is underway, with National finalists preparing to touch down in Melbourne later this month ahead of the national finals held at the Sofitel on Collins June 28.
We are chatting with Remi Lane, from WA who will be competing for the 2018 title of Miss Universe Australia.
So why don’t you tell our readers a little about yourself?
I like to think of myself as adventurous and motivated! So you will probably see me at the beach, camping and travelling or getting work done and ticking things off my “to do list”. (Very satisfying must I add) After studying Fashion Design for three years, winning the industry judged range of the year award and being invited to showcase my designs at Perth Fashion Festival, I decided to create my own label “Remi Lane” designs. While studying an Associates Degree in Fashion Business, I was also creating my first ever collection and getting it ready to showcase at Perth Fashion Festival as well as working a part-time job. Now I’m working on my third collection that will be released in October, and I’m so excited!! The feeling of seeing a collection come together is indescribable; I can’t wait for what this year brings.
So you’ve just returned from the Miss Universe Finalists trip to the Amazing Allia Hotels in Bali… How was the experience?
Holy moly, it was INSANE! I cannot recommend Alila Hotels enough; every single resort was so different. First, we stayed in Ubud which had a real jungle feel; it was so tranquil and full of so much beauty. Seminyak had a tremendous social and beachy vibe, a lot of fun! Our last location was Uluwatu, we stayed in the Villas, and they were luxurious! The Uluwatu resort looked futuristic and dreamy, and I definitely did not want to leave. The whole Bali experience exceeded my expectations. We were dining at the most beautiful (and delicious) restaurants, getting up early to attend yoga and tai chi so start off the day, having a lot of fun on photo shoots, great workshops and my favourite part… meeting all of the girls!!! We had so much fun and made so many friendships; I’m so excited to all meet up again in Melbourne.
We know there was an amazing program of things for you all, what was your highlight?
I loved the Powerful Impressions workshop! I learnt so much about myself. We were taught how to define and develop our personal brand, analysing our strengths and weaknesses, build relationships and so much more. We continue this workshop in Melbourne, and I’m very excited!
So now you’re home and having undergone the best prep we can think of you know the sun, surf and Bali …. it’s not long till the national finals in Melb… how are you feeling in the lead-up and what sort of preparation are you doing, before finals week commences?
I am so excited for Melbourne! I can’t believe how fast it has come up, feels like a week ago we had our first heat. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and I’m so thrilled to see what we are going to be doing in the lead up to the final. I prepare myself by looking after my body mentally and physically. I go to Hurt Locker in Claremont for my boxing classes as well as doing a 40-minute workout five days a week! I’ve always been a pretty healthy eater so my diet hasn’t changed and I still have a little bit of chocolate throughout the week. I’ve been mentally preparing myself by keeping on top my lists to reduce and stress and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
With so many of you all bringing an individual flair to the competition, what do you think will set you apart from the other contestants?
Being a Fashion Designer and running my own business I have to be motivated, and I’ve learnt how to make decisions on the spot. I can implement both of these qualities into the competition.
Speaking of being unique we all have different motivations, what is something that motivates you daily or you would say is your passion?
I’ve got a passion for fashion! Haha, jokes aside it’s a very true statement. Without motivation, any business would fail, so I motivate myself every day to do the best I can. I start motivating myself by having a morning routine; wake up, eat breakfast, workout, shower, get ready and start the day!
What is something people might find interesting about yourself?
I love going to music festivals, and I will design 95% of every outfit I wear to them! I love coming up with a crazy idea in my head and seeing the creation come to life, plus I always make an outfit fun to dance in! Tassels and frills are a must!
Where is your favourite place in the world to wind down and relax?
Anywhere that my family, friends and lovely boyfriend are, sounds super cheesy but when so much love surrounds me how can you not feel relaxed!
The Miss Universe program has a long and proud history and focuses on helping women become the best versions of themselves, how do you think your experience so far will help move you forward in life?
I have learnt so much from participating in the Miss Universe program, how to present myself, how to build confidence, build relationships and so much more! This experience has opened my eyes that there are opportunities everywhere.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
We’re about to get a new puppy soon, and we’ve been shopping for dog toys. It’s been a long time since I’ve been “puppy shopping” and I couldn’t stop laughing at all of the things available for dogs! Beanies, jackets, sparkly things, little socks and even dog backpacks! Goodness me, there would be some spoilt pooches out there.
Name five things you can’t live without?
Can we please make this 6… haha – Family – My boyfriend – Friends – Music – Laughter – Crispy m&m’s
How would your closest friend describe you?
Oooh, I’d say bubbly, fun, motivated, organised and supportive!
How do you relate to your star sign
Being a Sagittarius, I am very adventurous, energetic, optimistic and always want to be in touch with the world.
