Today we are catching up with Sienna Perruzza of Western Australia, one of the 27 talented and inspiring women from all walks of life who are hoping to be crowned Miss Universe Australia 2022.

So Sienna, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

Hello there, I’m Sienna; I am a uni student by day and a waitress by night. I am currently in my second year studying for a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting. I am very much enjoying it, as it keeps me b,usy and I love working with numbers. My family also owned an Italian restaurant for over 20 years, and that is where you will find me when I am not studying (or online shopping… hehe).

We all have motivations, mine usually around good coffee, but what was your key motivation for entering Miss Universe Australia?

In all honesty, before I joined the Miss Universe Australia program, I didn’t actually know too much about it and what it entailed. My motivation for entering revolved around wanting to do somethimeaningfulant with my life, and creating a platform for myself to discuss issues that are important to me. Mainly, I wanted to be a voice for women and men out there who don’t feel comfortable in their own skin and who judge themselves based on how they look, to help them see that life is so much more than appearances and that if you have a good heart and something important to say, you should really go for it — as who you are as a person is so so so much more critical than any flaws you may perceive on your physical self. Looks may fade, but who you are as a person will forever stay, and that is something that I have learned growing up, so this was my main motivation for entering the program!

As part of the program, you recently spent time in our hometown of the Gold Coast with the Village Roadshow team; what was the experience like?

Spending time on the Gold Coast for the National Finalists trip was seriously like something out of a movie. We fitted in so many incredible experiences in the short span of a week, and it is something that I will never forget. We were very well looked after and spoilt by the Village Roadshow team, as they catered for most if not all the amazing experiences we had on the trip, and I know all of the girls, including myself, are incredibly grateful.

What would you say was the highlight of your trip?

It is so difficult to pinpoint just one highlight of our trip, as we did so many amazing things. However, it definitely would include the Official Swimwear photoshoot and, of course, our visit to Movie World. I also very much enjoyed snorkelling at SeaWorld! Swimming with the marine animals was such a surreal experience — including sharks and stingrays! — and it was so out of my comfort zone, but I had such a great time!

With everyone bringing their own unique and individual flair to the program, what is something that sets you apart from the other contestants?

Every one of the women in the program has such beautiful hearts and important things to give to the world; however, something that sets me apart from the others is my go-with-the-flow attitude. I am not too worked up about the intricate details of everything; I know that we all have very important roles in this program, however, I have adopted an ‘it is what it is attitude” as this is the only way I am able to bring my authentic self to the table and actually have fun. Usually being someone who can get so lost in the details, it has allowed me to relax and be comfortable enough not to get too worked up over anything! But, I wouldn’t be able to be myself if I focused too much on the final outcome because, in the end, only one girl is going to take home the crown, and that is okay if I stay true to myself and take everything as it comes, one step at a time, then. I know that I have put my all into the program and that I have enjoyed every single one of the experiences that we have been given. This program has changed my life; I have grown so much, and ,I am forever grateful for that.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Daria Varlamova; in your opinion, what are the most essential qualities that a Miss Universe Australia embodies?

In my opinion, Miss Universe Australia is someone with an incredibly warm energy, she is welcoming to everyone, she is not too out of reach, and she is intelligent in that she stands up for what she believes in, not what people think she should believe in, and she is a voice for those who do not have the same platform she has.

Now travel is back on the cards; where is your favourite place to travel to?

My number one favourite place to travel to would definitely be Italy! I come from a fully-Italian background and have visited many times pre-Covid. I am so excited to go back to see my family and to travel to parts that I haven’t before.

What is something people may find interesting about you?

Something interesting about me would be that I have trained most of my life as a singer and have done numerous charity balls, sporting games, events and competitions. I was even on the Voice Kids all the way back in 2014 when I was 11!

Tell us something you’re passionate about and why?

This question is tricky, not because I am not passionate about anything, but because my passions are not limited to only one subject! I am constantly learning, and my passions are ever-evolving and growing. If I had to pick just one, it would be, as I discussed previously, it would be to love the body you are in. Self-image is something that many people struggle with, including myself. It is certainly something that, due to the rise of social media and the intense beauty standards placed upon us, we believe we must strive to be perfect and that if we are not perfect in the eyes of our society, then we are not worthy, and I think it is so sad that we have been ingrained to believe this. Our place in the world should not be about how “instagrammable” and photogenic we are, but whether we can hold genuine conversations, whether we believe in something important, or even just follow our passions (no matter what they may be) as that is all that matters in life, not the way you look as that makes absolutely no difference to what you are able to bring to the table.
