Today we are catching up with Stacey Fleming of Victoria, one of the 29 talented and inspiring women from all walks of life who are hoping to be crowned Miss Universe Australia 2021.

So Stacey , why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a 21-year-old from a small town in the Yarra Ranges of Victoria. I am very competitive and have a solid determination to make the best of any opportunities arising.
I am happiest to be around the people I love, doing any form of physical activity or basking in the sunshine. I work as a model in Melbourne and also as a retail assistant, and I absolutely LOVE what I do.

We all have motivations, mine usually revolving around good coffee, but what was your key motivation for entering the Miss Universe Australia competition?

I remember the moment I applied for the program. It was an exact moment in which I thought, no matter what I do, there will be people who choose not to look deeper than my appearance. This program will help me grow and learn about my strengths, and I have used it to help other young people understand their own untapped potential. The decision to apply was made simple.

If you win the title of Miss Universe Australia, you will receive the prestigious Minespec Parts Education and Business grant worth $20,000; what would you do with the grant and why?

If I were granted the $20,000 by Minespec Parts, I would use the funds to educate myself, working with schools to bridge the gap for students between completing secondary education and their future careers.
So often, we are not given the opportunity to work with industry experts in our chosen career paths. I believe this to be detrimental to the growth and confidence of young people entering the workforce. Setting up an ongoing mentoring program within our school system, providing industry-based skills, knowledge, networking, and connections BEFORE young people leave school, would be the ultimate long-term goal for this grant.

With everyone bringing their own unique and individual flair to the competition, what is something that sets you apart from the other contestants?

I have been told that I have an incredible ability to understand and connect with people from all walks of life. Whether it be the elderly person down the street or the people I chat to whilst waiting for a coffee, I feel like I can change their day.
I have always felt a great sense of responsibility to make a difference in a positive way. This, and my spontaneous personality, are what I believe sets me apart from the rest.

The last eighteen months certainly have been challenging for all of us; what would you say has been something you’ve gained or learned from the whole experience?

The resilience we are all capable of. Seeing what people are going through, particularly here in Victoria, breaks my heart every day, to say the very least. The courage and tenacity we have to keep hope, spirit and love alive during these times are absolutely incredible. I know that if we are able to find ourselves within the hardest of times, we can tackle anything life throws our way. Human connection is our most powerful tool in times of trial, and the embodiment of hope we grace each other with is beyond compare.

What is the first thing you hope to do as soon as restrictions are lifted?

To begin a fresh start and re-connect with loved ones in a physical sense. Never again will I take for granted the simple pleasure of a hug, handshake, or eating out again!

Final Five Questions

Favourite Place to Travel To?
Anywhere with a beach and some extreme activities to get the heart racing!

The highlight of the last year?
Entering the Miss Universe Australia program – by a landslide!

What is something people may find interesting about yourself?
I love to travel by myself! Any situation where I have to fend for myself and challenge my own nature makes me very excited.

Tell us something you’re passionate about and why?
I am incredibly passionate about doing what I love. We are all only here for as long as life allows. Living for your own self and happiness is something I try to instil in everyone that I am in contact with.

One piece of advice you have for us all?
Do what makes your heart full, your face smile, and your body grateful. Do not look to others for what you want, instead take a pen – write it down, say it aloud, and chase after it.

Thank you to
