Repco Supercars Championship drivers Cam Waters and James Golding traded their gen3 Supercars for the monstrous machines of Monster Jam. The duo embraced the adrenaline-fueled world of monster trucks in a thrilling encounter just a week before the highly anticipated Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

Waters and Golding had the privilege of meeting two Monster Jam legends, Charlie Pauken and Myranda Cozad, and even climbed into the imposing cabins of their mechanical beasts, Megalodon and Thor. This exciting encounter set the stage for the upcoming Monster Jam event, scheduled to take place at Cbus Super Stadium this weekend.

However, the Supercars stars won’t linger in the world of monster trucks for long. In just seven days, they will be back on familiar ground, hitting the track in Surfers Paradise to prepare for the penultimate event of the 2023 Supercars season on the renowned Gold Coast street circuit.

Cam Waters, who pilots the Monster Energy Ford for Tickford Racing, has a history with the Gold Coast, having secured a runner-up position in 2017. Notably, he left a lasting impression in the 2022 event with a daring pirouette after an encounter with the Turn 3 tyre barrier during last year’s Saturday race. While he may be new to the world of monster trucks, Waters is no stranger to dirt racing, having spent his off-seasons competing in sprint cars and challenging the best on clay tracks.

James Golding, representing Arundel-based PremiAir Racing, seeks redemption in 2023 after a spectacular multi-car accident marred his performance in last year’s Sunday race. His recent performance at the Bathurst 1000, where he qualified fourth before facing pit lane drama on race day and finishing 10th, demonstrated his potential for a strong comeback.

The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 promises thrilling on-track action, starting with two Supercars practice sessions next Friday, followed by Armor All qualifying, a Top Ten Shootout, and a 250-kilometre race set to unfold on both Saturday and Sunday.

The excitement doesn’t stop with the races. The off-track entertainment at Club 500 features live music acts throughout the weekend, with acclaimed artists such as The Presets, Client Liaison, Mashd N Kutcher, and Illy gracing the stage on Macintosh Island.

As the Supercars season approaches its climax, Brodie Kostecki of Erebus Motorsport currently leads the standings by an impressive 131 points, with three-time Repco Bathurst 1000 champion Shane van Gisbergen in pursuit.

Tickets for Queensland’s largest annual sporting event can be purchased through Supercars.com and Ticketek, ensuring motorsport enthusiasts don’t miss this thrilling spectacle.
