Trailer: SURFILMUSIC the evolution of Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson’s SURFILMUSIC blends rare surf footage, family archives and new music into a documentary and soundtrack launch, with the SURFILMUSIC Tour bringing him back to Australia.

Jack Johnson fans have a new reason to celebrate. A new documentary titled SURFILMUSIC is on the way, capturing his journey from a dedicated surfer and filmmaker to a globally recognised musician. Directed by Emmett Malloy, the film uses rare footage from his early surf films alongside personal and family archives.

The documentary shows how making surf films with close friends set the foundation for his broader creative life. It captures moments both in and out of the water that ultimately shaped his songwriting. Viewers will see familiar faces, with appearances by Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Gerry Lopez, Chris Malloy, G. Love, Ben Harper, John Florence, Kim Johnson, and Emmett Malloy himself. The project also carries a special dedication in loving memory of Tamayo Perry.

Alongside the visual release, fans can look forward to new music. A companion double album, SURFILMUSIC Soundtrack and 4-Tracks, arrives on May 15 via Brushfire Records. The soundtrack includes an original score by Jack Johnson and Hermanos Gutiérrez. The 4-Tracks section offers a closer look at his personal tapes, featuring raw recordings, remastered selections from his early four-track sessions, and previously unreleased music from his earliest days as an artist.

Jack Johnson will also be bringing the SURFILMUSIC Tour to Australia

The SURFILMUSIC tour marks Johnson’s long-awaited return to the road since 2022 and will celebrate a new era of music, film, and environmental connection rooted in his chart-topping catalogue, spanning over twenty years.
