Wonka's Golden Ticket Reality Series Films on Gold Coast

Netflix's new reality competition, Wonka's The Golden Ticket, transforms the Gold Coast into a wondrous chocolate factory.

The Gold Coast has officially been transformed into a world of pure imagination. Netflix is gearing up to release Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, a brand-new competition series that brings Roald Dahl’s iconic Charlie & the Chocolate Factory to life right here in Australia.

A Golden Opportunity for Local Production

While the series promises high-stakes games and delicious mischief for its contestants, it also represents a major win for the local film and television sector. Produced entirely on the Gold Coast, the project was backed by all levels of government. It received support from the Australian Government through its Location Offset, the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, and the local council through the City of Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program.

This collaboration means that the spectacular factory landscape, designed to test the resilience and character of twelve lucky Golden Ticket winners, was built and brought to life by local resources.

Nostalgia Meets High-Stakes Reality

Set to premiere globally on September 23, with a two-part finale on September 30, the series acts as a celebration of the 1971 classic film’s 55th anniversary. Fans can expect a massive dose of nostalgia alongside the local scenery. The series features the recreated voice of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, developed with the consent of his estate.

As Karen B. Wilder noted on behalf of the Gene Wilder Estate, "More than five decades after Gene brought Willy Wonka to life, people of all ages and backgrounds around the world continue to find joy, laughter and inspiration in his performance."

Adding to the classic feel, Rusty Goffe will return to reprise his original 1971 role as an Oompa Loompa. With contestants navigating unexpected challenges and testing their morals in a chaotic environment, the Gold Coast has provided the perfect backdrop for a modern, unpredictable journey into Wonka's world.
