In the heart of the Gold Coast, a culinary mission has reached its delicious peak. The team at 92.5 Triple M Gold Coast – Flan, Ali & Spida – embarked on a quest to create the ultimate pie, a dish that embodies the very spirit of the Gold Coast. The result? ‘The Goldie’, a delectable pie that brings together local ingredients and celebrates the resilience of the local community.
Over the course of four weeks, listeners were invited to vote for their favourite pie, with two mouth-watering finalists emerging: ‘The Goldie’, a succulent beef pie, and ‘The Surfers Ocean Break’, a seafood delight. The competition was fierce but in the end, ‘The Goldie’ was crowned the winner at a special event held at Balter Brewing in Currumbin.
‘The Goldie’ is a gastronomic tribute to the Gold Coast, featuring slow-cooked Bermuda beef, Bangalow bacon and golden parmesan cheese. This rich and hearty filling is enveloped in a velvety gravy made with local Currumbin Balter Beer. This pie is a true representation of the Gold Coast, bringing together local flavours in the most Aussie way possible.
BC’s Bakery in Ashmore was chosen to bring ‘The Goldie’ to life. This choice was made even more significant considering the bakery is still recovering from an arson attack last year. ‘The Goldie’ is now available all winter for locals to enjoy.
Flan, Ali, and Spida have each expressed their excitement about ‘The Goldie’. Flan said, “Cooking from the heart of the Gold Coast, BC’s Bakery, Bermuda Beef, Bangalow Bacon and Balter Beer – now that’s what I call THE GOLDIE! Push one in your pie hole!” Ali added, “THE GOLDIE pie is rated SGF 50, the SO GOOD FACTOR, and tastes even better when you eat it between the flags!” Spida summed it up with, “The Gold Coast is more than just theme parks, beaches, and bikinis. The Gold Coast is surrounded by fresh produce and flavours, so let’s celebrate in the greatest Aussie way, a pie!”
